Protect LGBTQ Arizonans: Oppose SB 1325

The harmful bill that would give legal protections to providers of the dangerous, debunked practice of so-called “conversion therapy” is BACK! The original bill died in committee, but the bill is back now as SB 1325. We must stop it again.

Legislators are considering this cruel bill during a pandemic. SB 1325 is dangerous, harmful and wrong--and we must take action today.

Dear Senator,

As a supporter of LGBTQ Arizonans, I urge you to vote NO on the striker amendment to Senate Bill 1325. This is an incredibly dangerous amendment that would prevent any restrictions on the harmful, discredited practice of so-called “conversion therapy” by the State, professional licensing boards, local governments, and school boards . We strongly urge you to reject this legislation.

Conversion therapy, sometimes called “sexual orientation change efforts” or “reparative therapy,” refers to practices that seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity. These practices are based on the false idea that being LGBTQ is a mental illness that needs to be cured—an idea which has been rejected by every major medical and mental health organization. There is no credible evidence that conversion therapy can change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity, and it is abundantly clear that conversion therapy poses devastating health risks, particularly for LGBTQ youth.

I urge you to vote NO on the proposed amendment to SB 1325.
