We are here. We must be counted.
New HRC research shows that LGBTQ+ people are now a record-high 12% of the American population — yet the Trump administration and its MAGA allies are hell-bent on erasing us.
They tried to take down the Pride flag from the Stonewall National Monument and remove our rainbow crosswalks. They’ve pushed “Don’t Say Gay or Trans” policies in schools, bans on best-practice health care for trans youth and bans on books with LGBTQ+ characters. They’re firing transgender service members from the military, cutting HIV prevention and treatment funds from the federal budget and gutting DEI policies in workplaces across the country.
The Trump administration is also attempting to stop counting us altogether. Right now they are stripping sexual orientation and gender identity questions from hundreds of federal data sets on our health, our safety and our financial well-being.
These latest moves are a disturbing trend meant to erase the LGBTQ+ community from official statistics that shape public policy, community resource development, corporate strategy and campaign outreach. The results will be significant gaps in demographic understanding, flawed public policy and further injustice to our community.
Imagine not counting 12% of the population out of hate. It’s outrageous.
Add your name to demand LGBTQ+ inclusion in all federal data collection and a stop to all efforts to erase our community — because our numbers are only growing, and we’re not going anywhere.
