Tell Elected Officials In Ohio to Leave LGBTQ+ People Alone

Make no mistake: bills such as HB 8, which seek to forcibly out LGBTQ+ youth and deny all students access to an inclusive education, pose a direct threat to LGBTQ+ Ohioans! Governor DeWine, every Ohio Senator, and every Ohio Representative has a duty to act in the best interest of every Ohioan! HB 8 and any bill that aims to undermine the rights of LGBTQ+ Ohioans goes against that duty. Please stand with the LGBTQ+ community and send a message asking our elected officials to say NO to this bill.

As an Ohioan and a supporter of the Human Rights Campaign, I’m asking you to STOP the attack on LGBTQ+ rights in Ohio. Stand up against Ohio HB 8, a Don’t Say LGBTQ+/Forced Outing bill and any bill containing dangerous anti-LGBTQ+ language.

Schools have an obligation to provide safe and affirming learning environments for all students, regardless of their background, sexual orientation, or gender identity. HB 8 attempts to release Ohio schools from that sacred responsibility by forcing them to out transgender students without their consent, creating a climate of fear and isolation in the classroom.

The legislation — which has opposition from individuals and organizations from around Ohio — also includes a new amendment mandating released time for religious instruction (RTRI), allowing students to attend off-campus religious classes during the school day. As a result, HB 8 would not only censor teachers and harm students, but would disrupt learning and undermine the inclusive mission of public education.

You have the power to stand against this hateful legislation. Please oppose any attempt to force educators to out students when it would put those kids in danger, and oppose any attempt to endanger the lives of LGBTQ+ Ohioans!
