Trans people belong – everywhere. House Speaker Mike Johnson is targeting trans people with a cruel bathroom ban at the U.S. Capitol – an attack on equality and a direct affront to Congresswoman-elect Sarah McBride, the first openly transgender member of Congress.

These cruel policies have nothing to do with helping people and everything to do with hurting people. Trans people deserve to live in peace – free from discrimination, harassment, and violence.

Speaker Johnson:

We urge you to stop advancing discriminatory anti-transgender policies, including your ban on transgender women using women’s restrooms in the Capitol complex. This discriminatory policy, along with other anti-LGBTQ+ provisions in must-pass legislation, represents an unacceptable assault on the LGBTQ+ community.

These measures, including bans on medically necessary health care, licenses to discriminate, and attacks on pride flags, drag performances, and diversity programs, are hateful and harmful. They undermine the values of equality and justice that Americans demand from their leaders.

As Speaker of the House, your actions set a dangerous precedent. You should reject these harmful provisions. It’s time to end the hate in Congress and get to work on actually helping the American people
