As Congress returns to Washington to pass the final bills of the year, including government spending bills and the annual defense bill, some in Congress are trying to sneak in extreme anti-LGBTQ+ attacks in these must-pass bills. We need YOU to contact your Representatives to urge them to OPPOSE any bill that includes these anti-LGBTQ+ policies!

Shining a light on these dangerous anti-LGBTQ+ provisions in this year’s spending bills, the Human Rights Campaign has released the report Appropriations Under Attack: Ongoing Anti-LGBTQ+ Extremism in the 118th Congress. Now more than ever, we need voices like yours to help stop these harmful attacks and remind members of Congress that hate has no place in government spending.

As your constituent and a supporter of the Human Rights Campaign, I’m urging you to oppose anti-LGBTQ+ provisions in the FY2025 Appropriations bills and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Last year, in the wake of the Human Rights Campaign’s declaration of a national state of emergency, Republican leaders in the House of Representatives used the appropriations process and the NDAA to push forward a series of extreme anti-LGBTQ+ riders. Ultimately, because of strong opposition from pro-equality lawmakers and the public these provisions were not included in the final bills.

Despite this failed strategy, the House Republican leaders are again attempting to limit the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, embedding similar harmful provisions in the must-pass year-end legislation, including several key areas like the prohibition of medically necessary health care, limits on non-discrimination enforcement, the introduction of broad licenses to discriminate, restrictions on the display of pride flags, bans on drag performances and attacks on diversity programs.

We urge you to defeat these harmful provisions to send a message to the American people that hate has no place in the working of keeping the government running. Please oppose any bill that includes anti-LGBTQ+ provisions.
