Ohio, Take Action Against Anti-LGBTQ+ SB 104

Right now, we need HRC members and supporters like you to speak up against an anti-LGBTQ+ bill. We can’t let this dangerous bill pass:

A Transgender Bathroom Ban – S.B. 104 would require K-12 and college students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that match their sex assigned at birth.

Dear Governor DeWine,

As your constituent and supporter of the Human Rights Campaign, I am writing today to ask that you not sign S.B. 104 or any legislation passed by the legislature that includes anti-LGBTQ+ language.

Many Ohioans, including myself, love Ohio’s slogan “Ohio, Heart of it All”. But for many of us, our [reality] home has become, “Ohio, The Heart of Hate in America”. LGBTQ+ youth, including transgender youth, should be allowed to focus on growing up.  They should be allowed to thrive, and they shouldn’t feel they have to leave Ohio in order to be safe.  If Ohio truly is the Heart of It All, we should show that heart.

You can stop this, Governor DeWine. As the Ohio constitution says, “All men are, by nature, free and independent, and have certain inalienable rights, among which are seeking and obtaining happiness and safety.”  The bathroom provisions in SB 104 make transgender and gender non-conforming Ohioans less safe. Allow LGBTQ+ Ohioans to seek & obtain happiness and safety, by vetoing SB 104 and any other bill that aims to infringe on these inalienable rights as Ohio citizens.
